Moffat School of Irish Dance presents Children of Lir at Ballina Arts Centre tonight

As part of this year’s Ballina Salmon Festival, Ballina Arts Centre will present The Children of Lir, by the Sheila Moffat School of Irish Dancing on tonight, Friday, July 13. The Ballina-based school will tell the classic story of how four young children were transformed into swans, destined to spend 900 years on the lakes of Ireland, by a curse from their stepmother, through the traditional form of Irish dance.

This is available every Tuesday morning in Ballina FRC. This facility can be used by cancer patients and members of their family who have been affected by cancer. It’s A Knockout kicks off the second half of the fun filled week on Thursday, July 12. This event promises to be jam-packed with exciting challenges with something appealing to everybody. New year-round tourist office very welcome for Ballina — Mulherin

Fine Gael TD for Mayo, Michelle Mulherin, has welcomed the decision to give the green light to the proposal by Ballina Chamber to open a year-round tourist office in Ballina and the awarding of funding of €5,000 to help in its operation. The new tourist office, located on Pearse Street in the heart of the town, replaces the seasonal office which had operated for about six months each year from premises on Cathedral Road which was more off the beaten track.

Commemorative Famine Walk in Ballina

Gorta is to hold a remembrance Famine Walk in Ballina on May 7 at 2pm. The family walk, through Belleek Woods, is to honour the journey made by a Mayo family during the Great Famine.
